Widespread sun crust on solar aspects and windboard on all aspects. Found preserved powder in shady sheltered areas down to around 5,000' or 5,500'. Clear and warm all day with a moderate S wind. Did not see any solar avalanche activity today but we mostly stayed in the shade. Did see some old rollerballs on the SE face of Norse Peak. Skied steep N facing terrain, found firm and variable conditions.

Advanced Observations

Observed Avalanche Problem #1:
Wind Slab
Comments:
On the ridge S of Basin Lake, at ridgeline on a N aspect, approximately 6,700', I observed some shooting cracks after stomping hard on a convexity. Did an ECT on a similar slope and got ECTN. Found about 30cm of 1F new snow above a rain crust, then 40cm of 1F snow to another crust. Total HS was 125cm.
