Two column tests at 5300 ft on SSE aspect of Tye Peak during skin ascent at 12:00pm failed immediately both on first tap. Top 4” immediately separated and slid as a cohesive slab from remaining stable layers below. No signs of shooting cracks or whumpfs however, and the snow skied fine and seemed stable on our descent. Tried to choose somewhat conservative lines based on the column test result but had no issues and did not see any signs of unstable snow the open face on descent.
