Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Toured up Boy Scout Ridge from White River West. Starting at 9:30am the snow was already slightly wet feeling in the sun. Decent conditions heading up through the trees with about 6-8 inches of new snow on top of the consolidated hard melt-freeze crust . Started seeing wind affected snow in open areas around 5000 Feet and then significant wind affect once out of the trees on the top of the ridge. Small cornices starting to build over White River with the west side of the ridge scoured with exposed rocks and vegetation. Just saw a light dusting on the ridge tops that were all dirt a few days ago.

Turned back at about 5700 ft. as snow was starting to get wet and sticky. On the way down required a double dose of glide wax to keep snow from forming massive clods of snow on the bottoms of my skis. Didn't see any other signs of wet instability along the way. Back to the car by 12:30.
