A clear warm day to ski low-angle slopes of Mt Baldy (North Chiwaukum). Travel conditions were firm in the morning and mostly stayed firm into the afternoon on high elevation (>6000ft) south aspects despite the sun. We noticed older rollerballs on S aspects but no apparent wet slide activity from today. We eventually found a good mix of soft, supportive skiing at around 5200ft at 2:30pm.
Searching for the late January PWL, we performed a CT on the N aspect of McCue ridge at 6700ft with no results. After the test, pulling on the column we were able to pull off a resistant planar break 35 cm down on a layer of 240cm with a variety of closely-stacked layers from 1F to K hardness.
