No recent snow.It was sunny and warm this morning (50 degrees F) in areas not shaded or exposed to wind. Winds were steady 10-15 mph and gusting to about 25 mph from the N and NE down in the deep gullies and exposed ridges of the canyon. Temperature was measured at 42 degrees F at 6000 feet in the eastern moraine. No blowing snow was observed.
No new or recent avalanches were observed. Wet slides could be an issue later in the day but unlikely due to the shallow and consolidated nature of the snowpack. Mid-sized old glide cracks were observed, but no glide avalanches were seen. Some of these cracks could be deep.
Snowpack Observations
Snow exhibited numerous old runnels and glide cracks. Wind has deposited substantial dirt on most surfaces. Numerous shallow suncups were observed. Rockfall has resulted in difficult skiing/skinning conditions in gullies underneath exposed moraines. The snowpack was measured at 60 cm at 6000 feet. A number of the braided creeks of the White River are open - all snow bridges were solid at noon today, but afternoon warming could soften them substantially.
