Wind gauges are unheated and may rime. Often you can tell when gauges are rimed or "iced" when the following occurs: Temperatures are near or below freezing and the wind direction does not change and appears stuck on a single direction for several consecutive hours. The wind speed may be rimed if readings of zero or near zero display for several hours during otherwise windy periods.
