Intern Observers

The Intern Observer program is a paid, part-time internship for motivated individuals seeking a career in the snow and avalanche industry. Intern Observers will have the opportunity to engage with all three of NWAC’s primary tenants: Forecasts, Education, and Outreach, while gaining experience with a public avalanche forecasting operation.

Qualifications

• Rec 2 or Pro 1 course (or equivalent)
• Desire to work professionally in the snow & avalanche industry
• Ability to travel safely in backcountry terrain

The Intern Observer Program will run from early to mid-December through mid-April, snow conditions depending, encompassing the entire length of the NWAC forecast season. This is a one-season commitment.

Program Commitments

• Attend in-person training on Saturday, November 7th in North Bend, WA
• Conduct 14 field observation days throughout the season and produce a public facing observation for each field day
• Participate in an in-person field day focused on translating avalanche concepts into field lessons for recreational students
• Attend one NWAC Trailhead Outreach event

Compensation

Intern observers are contract workers and will be required to fill out a W-9 upon employment. Intern observers are compensated at $175 per day, including observation days, education field day, and Trailhead Outreach day.
