NWAC believes in educating the next generation about the risks of avalanches so that they can safely enjoy a lifetime in the winter mountains. We work with a variety of youth serving groups to provide classroom presentation and field-based lessons. These programs are free of charge. We ask for a minimum of 4 weeks notice for awareness class requests and a minimum of 6 weeks for field program requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Program requests are closed for the 2025\/26 season. Feel free to reach out at any time about programming for 2026\/27.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Youth Avalanche Awareness Classes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

NWAC offers free Avalanche Awareness classes for schools, clubs, sports teams, and other youth serving organizations all over the region. This classroom presentation teaches youth about the risk of avalanches, how to read the avalanche forecast and tools to stay safe in the winter mountains. The full length of this presentation is 90-minutes, but it can be tailored to a shorter length (like a class period) if necessary. Hosts provide the venue (virtual classes also available) and A\/V equipment. NWAC will provide the curriculum and instructor. Request a class<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Youth Avalanche Awareness Field Programs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Plan your next field trip with NWAC! NWAC offers lessons of various lengths on topics like avalanche rescue, terrain identification, and snowpack development for middle school and high school aged youth. Field trips must be organized and staffed by the school or youth organization. NWAC will act as a guest and provide the lesson content. NWAC x Freeride Field Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

NWAC offers an avalanche awareness field program specifically designed for local youth freeride teams. The program includes an indoor component followed by on-snow stations including terrain identification, layer identification, and avalanche rescue. Programs are roughly a half-day in length, depending on number of participants. The teams are responsible for providing the venue (within the mitigated ski area) and coaches or chaperones to assist with transitioning between stations. NWAC provides the content and instructors. Powderpigs offers a range of engaging programs catering to various ages and skill levels. Their group programs emphasize personalized instruction, skill development, and a positive environment. Participants can explore skiing and snowboarding, build confidence, and acquire teaching skills, all while fostering a lifelong passion for snow sports and the mountains.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
