Current Volunteer Openings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

NWAC is seeking new board members!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NWAC Board Members are volunteers who serve three-year terms and are expected to participate in monthly in-person board and committee meetings, provide counsel to NWAC staff, participate in some events, and make NWAC a personally-meaningful part of their individual philanthropy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ideal board members bring insights, energy, and enthusiasm for NWAC\u2019s work, along with representation of our broad and diverse winter backcountry community. While a strong enthusiasm for the outdoors, winter recreation, and public safety is needed to be an effective board member, no formal or professional backcountry experience is required for this role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Working at NWAC <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) is a collaborative effort between the US Forest Service Northwest Avalanche Center and the nonprofit Northwest Avalanche Center. The mission of NWAC is to increase avalanche awareness, reduce avalanche impacts, and equip the community with mountain weather and avalanche forecasts, education, and data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NWAC is a public-private partnership between the 501(c)(3) non-profit Northwest Avalanche Center and USFS Northwest Avalanche Center. Job postings will specify which arm of NWAC manages the position. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) Forecasting Program is administered by the USFS \u2013 Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The program consists of two USFS avalanche meteorologists based in the NOAA-NWS office in Seattle, and seven USFS avalanche specialists (forecasters) based in satellite locations in Bellingham, Seattle, Leavenworth, Cle Elum, North Bend, WA and Parkdale, OR. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NWAC non-profit staff are based in North Bend. They manage education, outreach and fundraising and fund the www.nwac.us website and various related tech projects. The Northwest Avalanche Center is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit and is overseen by a 19-member Board of Directors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
